Wisconsin’s Tumbledown Trails golf course is in a bit of trouble with their members and the rest of the community over a tacky advertisement regarding 9/11. With the twelfth anniversary of the attacks on this nation coming up on Wednesday the golf course thought it would be clever to offer golf rates at $9.11 for nine holes or $19.11 for 18 holes. Not so clever because it backfired and now they find themselves back tracking and apologizing for the move. In fact they have decided to shut down altogether for the day.
Management at the golf course said they were only trying to do something to help people stay aware of the tragedy that happened and they said they received many comments on the positive side. Their goal was not to be tacky or offend anyone so they quickly nixed the plan and said they will find another way to honor the fallen next year.
Although they are shutting down to the general public that day those who have already signed up can still tee off at the normal price. Tumbledown will donate any profits to a special memorial 9/11 fund. They want the public to know they always donate 20% of their proceeds to the local firefighters and police departments. Well at least they showed concern for the negative comments and fixed the problem. That shows class. We can never forget what happened on 9/11.
